FELGUEIRAS, Portugal, has a great deal to offer in terms of inspiration. My field of design is footwear, so having visited various factories this December, it was onto the shops. Just wanted to share with you a few of my findings.

I have seen many knitted panels on footwear, but mostly, plain or cable knits. I thought these stripey knits really had a point of difference, and stand out more from the hundreds of workboots coming through.

I loved this mens hybird boot of mixing the formal brogue detailling, an apron front and then the elastic detail at the back all on a work boot
The heavy raised embossing found on the Replay boot, is also something that I am seeing more and more on ladies and mens footwear styles. I recently saw a ladies sandal with a bow shaped embossing to the centre of the vamp and this detailing looks clean and simple, and very effective. As trends become more minimal in the seasons to come, this technique will be seen more and more.
Having taken a look at the bright and bubbly preview of the Adidas Japan 2010 Womens Preview, this style sprung out at me.Featuring bright bouncy colours, oddball oversize outerwear, animal prints and punky parallel lines, it’s a case of New Wave cool meets kooky kawaii.
They are not slippery at all, and they are probably somewhat water resistant>>.

Melanie Harper’s boots caught my eye as she was browsing in ‘House of Fraser’, Huddersfield, England. I thought her style looked individual and I loved her red beret. The boots had a textile panel at the centre back and even though she worried about ‘paint splashes’ on them, it all became clear when she explained she was studying a Textiles degree at Huddersfield University.
Her boots were from an independent called ‘Pixie Pop & Posh’ in Huddersfield about 2 years ago. I accept the textile pattern might not appeal to the mass, but it could be replaced with a tonal heavy slub canvas to keep up with a more timeless and classic trend.
Maybe even a pleat for those ladies with wider shins?
Note to self: Must visit this shop.
Note to High Street Chain Stores: Please have the confidence to create something that little bit different
